Forehead/Brow Lift (Rhytidectomy)

Frown lines and furrows, sagging eyebrows, and "hooding" of the lids are some of the inevitable results of aging. Lifts can help to minimize these problems by tightening the skin and underlying muscles. The result is a more youthful, more animated expression.

This fairly simple procedure can be performed alone but is often done in conjunction with a facelift or eyelid surgery.

THE PROCEDURE

Lift procedures are performed on an outpatient basis in a surgical facility. Usually, a local anesthesia is used unless other procedures are also being performed.

An incision is usually made from the ears across the top of the forehead. The incision line is made behind the natural hairline so that any scarring is inconspicuous. The forehead skin is gently lifted and portions of the facial muscle and excess skin are removed. The incision is then closed with stitches or clips.

Most patients are back to work in a few days and fully resume all normal activities in a couple of weeks. There may be some swelling, bruising or numbness which will gradually disappear.
