Fueled by the baby boom generation, the number of cosmetic procedures performed nationwide continues to explode. Cosmetic surgery?it's the thing to do and cost is not a deterrent.

According to the most recent information released by the American Society of Plastic Surgeon, more than 230,865 liposuctions were performed by Society member surgeons followed by 167,318 breast augmentations, 142,035 eyelid surgeries and 72,783 facelifts. These are the four most popular procedures. Since non-member physicians also perform these surgeries, the total number of procedures performed is higher. Dr. Windle's practice tracks similar to the national trends.

Practices like Dr. Windle's are seeing a shift is their case load from reconstructive surgeries to more cosmetic, self-pay procedures. Cosmetic surgery is almost a specialization on its own. From a patient's point of view, special care should be exercised in seeking surgeons with significant cosmetic experience along with the board certification.
