One of the most popular cosmetic procedures, breast augmentation can produce a more desirable breast size and shape with a natural-looking appearance. Over 120,000 breast augmentations were performed in the United States last year. The motives for having the procedure are personal and vary by individual. Some of the reasons our patients have the procedure include:

  • To enhance the body contour of a woman who, for personal reasons, feels her breast size is too small.
  • To correct the reduced breast size that may occur after pregnancy.
  • To correct breast asymmetry.
  • To reconstruct breasts following breast surgery.

Following the procedure, our patients tell us they experience enhanced self-confidence along with their improved body contour. However, it is important for you to examine your motives and to discuss them candidly with your plastic surgeon during your initial consultation.   For more information, CONTACT US.

The Procedure

Inflatable implants are inserted beneath each breast during the surgery. The type, size, and shape of the implant as well as the location of the initial incisions will be determined during your initial consultation. Although a number of different implant options are available at the present time, the implant that is used nearly universally is made of a silicone rubber shell, filled with a saline (salt-water) solution. The two options for implant shape are anatomical and round. The anatomical implant is narrower and taller, and projects further away from the body. Round implants are wider and less projecting.

During the procedure, an incision is made in the breast area to create a pocket for insertion of the implant. The incisions are made in areas where natural skin folds help to camouflage any scarring. The procedure is usually performed with general anesthesia, so you'll sleep through the entire operation.

Breast augmentation is a "same-day" procedure and generally takes 1 1/2 - 2 1/2 hours. Generally, our patients return to work within a few days. Physical contact with the breasts can occur 3-4 weeks after the procedure. Complete healing of the scars will depend upon the individual.

*As with any surgery, breast augmentation may carry some risks along with the potential of side effects. These will vary by individual and will be fully discussed during your initial consultation with the Board Certified plastic surgeons at Advanced Concepts, located in Seattle, Washington.
